Water plays a pivotal role in global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to build resilience safeguarding ecosystems and communities.
World Water Week 2025 focused on addressing the linked emergencies of climate change, environment degradation and biodiversity loss, emphasising both mitigation and adaptation, alongside the broader goal of enhancing resilience.
Fair Water Footprints was active throughout the conference.
In addition to a side event on “Just transitions: climate secure futures built on water secure foundations”, “Food security in a changing climate: embedding Fair Water Footprints” explored case studies from the fresh fruit and vegetable sector, and how embedding shared water security in the global economy is the route to climate resilience and food security for all.
The event included contributions from businesses, civil society and governments on the climate resilience and water security solutions being implemented through collaboration and collective action in Peru, Malawi, Morocco and beyond.
